Crazy Weather is the New Normal, Thanks to Climate Change

Wierd weather is becoming a normal thing in the U.S. recently. Heavy rain, big stowfalls, giant floods and draughts are a "new normal" for the United States. Climate scientist Katherine Hayhoe said it's described it best as "global wierding." Americans are used to certain weather patterns and there's a lot of different things happening that people aren't used to. For instance an increase in rainstorms throughout the U.S. Also there as been a record- length dry spell in west Texas over the past five years.

The terem global warming is kind of 'stupid' to say the least because there are certain area that have gotten colder since the "global warming" scare started. For instance in the article it said that heavy snowfalls have been the result to the climate changes in some areas. In my opinion Hayhoe put best when she described it as "global wierding." Though, grant it in most areas you do here about it getting warmer. However, the term global warming is to general in my book.

1) How did climate scientist Katherine Hayhoe describe climate change?
2) What was one of the new normal changes in clime throughout the U.S.?
3) Do you think the term global warming is too general for what is happening to the climate?
4) Over the past five years what has been happening in west Texas?

  1. I agree with Jack. Global warming is kind of stupid to say especially since now we have a lot more cold weather. Even now, it hasn't been that warm since this week. We have had a lot of flooding and rain in this area as well as many other areas. Also, in the past few years, we have had a lot of snow compared to before. Like Mrs. DeLuca said in class, only a few areas have been more warm, for example the north pole. However, it has been colder around here and other areas. Global warming shouldn't really be called 'global' warming. So, maybe the term 'global weirding' sounds about right.

    1. 'global weirding'
    2. giant flooding
    3. Yes, I think the term is too general because like I said before, only a few areas have been warm, not all.
    4. There has been a record length dry spell.

  2. I agree with Jack and Amanda. Global weirding seems more fitting that global warming. This is because it is not getting warm everywhere. Like they said, climate change has affected different regions in different ways. It seems like one thing that has been happening is tornadoes. There has been a lot on the news about how tornadoes are destroying the mid-west. There definitely seems to be more tornadoes than normal. Even here, in Horsham, we had a tornado warning last week. It was scary because they are super rare in Horsham. This is just one example how climate change is not global warming. We’re also getting more snow than normal. It is important that we address the issue of “global weirding”.

    1.Global Weirding
2.Big snowfall, dry spells in TX.
3.Yes, because climate change is occurring. There is not just warming, there’s increased snowfall, tornadoes, and extensive rainstorms.
    4. Dry spells

  3. REFLECTION:

I agree with everyone that global warming is a weird phrase to use. Global weirding seems to be the right thing to say. Like Mrs. Deluca said in class, global warming is actually incorrect because it is not getting warmer everywhere. I agree with kristin that tornadoes are the new thing now. the whole mid west is being hit repeatedly with them. Places that rarely have natural disasters, for example Philadelphia, had a tornado. even though it was not deadly, it was very rare and for sure a climate change. People need to learn that global weirding is the correct way of saying global warming.

    QUESTIONS:

    1) Global Weirding
    2) Heavy rain, Great snowfall, Giant floods
    3) Yes, because other climate changes are occurring other than warming.
    4) Dry spells
